Director of Membership Development in Augusta, ME
Description
Direct Hire opportunity with our client, a well-known and respected membership organization! This position does require travel within the state of Maine.

The Director of Membership Development is a key outward-facing role responsible for growing and retaining membership of the organization across the state. You will be building relationships with business leaders and traveling extensively to drive new member acquisition and strengthen engagement with current members. This role combines sales, networking, and relationship management to advance our client’s mission.

Some Duties Include:
-Develop and execute a strategic membership growth plan focused on recruitment, retention, and engagement.
-Actively prospect and secure new members through meetings, referrals, events, and outreach.
-Conduct in-person visits across the state to build relationships with prospective and existing members.
-Serve as a primary point of contact for member inquiries, onboarding, and engagement.
-Maintain accurate records of member activity, sales pipeline, and outreach efforts.
-Collaborate with internal teams (events, communications, advocacy) to align membership efforts with organization initiatives.
-Attend and represent the organization at regional events, meetings, and conferences.
-Identify opportunities for upselling sponsorships, advertising, and enhanced member benefits.
-Assist in development of membership materials, sales collateral, and marketing campaigns.

This position is typically Mon - Fri, 8:30 - 5:00 pm, yet the candidate must have availability for early morning and evening events, in addition to the ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout Maine, including overnight travel as needed. Occasionally, some lifting up to 50 lbs. is required. Salary is $70-75k with an additional commission structure and full benefits package included.
Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
-3+ years of experience in sales, business development, membership, or relationship management.
-Proven success in meeting or exceeding sales or membership growth targets.
-Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build trust quickly.
-Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
-Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite with Copilot.
-Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
-Must meet our client's background check requirements.
